The European Commission has proposed extending the temporary protection mechanism for individuals fleeing Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine for an additional twelve months. The decision takes into account Ukraine’s ongoing capacity to defend itself, according to a press release issued by the institution on 26 June 2026.
By extending this protection, the Commission stated that it intends to reinforce its commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as is necessary. The proposal aims to maintain stability for those displaced by the conflict, ensuring continued access to rights within the European Union.
