As of 16 July 2026, the new framework has been established to modernise the scheme and improve its overall inclusivity. By broadening the eligibility criteria, the Commission now allows graduates from vocational education and training programmes to apply for placements.
According to the Commission, this adjustment aims to better align the traineeship programme with broader European objectives regarding skills and employment. The revised rules form part of an effort to create a single, cohesive framework for the programme, ensuring it remains relevant to the current European labour market.
