The European Commission has adopted a Communication setting out a new strategic vision for the outermost regions of the European Union, according to a press release issued in Brussels on 10 September 2026.
The initiative encompasses several territories across member states, specifically including French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Mayotte, Réunion, and Saint-Martin for France, the Azores and Madeira for Portugal, and the Canary Islands for Spain.
According to the European Commission, the newly adopted strategic vision is designed to strengthen the EU's global reach through targeted attention to these specific outermost territories.
